Fungal nails are a common presentation. Typically appearing white, brown or yellow with a flaky texture. It can be located superficially on top of the nail, underneath the nail or on either side of the nails. In a very rare occasion it may be painful, nonetheless, it is usually not painful at all but rather of cosmetic concern.
Treatment is generally a lengthy process that requires some patience. Although some laser treatment options are available, the evidence to back up its effectiveness is still catching up. At this current point in time, the most practical means of treatment is topical nail paint/lacquer. There are a variety of options in this area, which would be ideal in different situations. It mostly depends on the severity of the fungal infection and its location on the nail.
